In a roller coaster match on Saturday, Georgia State kept Troy in check until late in the 4th quarter. The Panthers stood tall looking for their first Sun Belt Conference win. Down by one touchdown at the half, Georgia State returned to the second half and capitalized on a fumble from Troy’s opening drive. Four passes and two first downs later, Georgia’s Ronnie Bell connected with Albert Wilson for a touchdown of 8 yards, tying the game early in the 3rd.
Not Giving Up
The next 20 minutes of play resulted in each team capturing two more touchdowns and keeping it tied 28-28 with only a few minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. However, in the midst of the winning drive by Georgia State, Troy picked an interception, which gave them incredible field position. Minutes later, Corey Robinson launched a 54 yard bomb to give Troy the final advantage. Georgia was unable to respond before Troy worked the clock, closing the game 35-28.
While Georgia had high hopes for this game, losing their first Sunbelt Conference game caused them to slip a little farther back to 0-6.
Tuesday Night Feature
ESPN posted their likely bowl pairings for week 7. ESPN analysts were split. One is picking last year’s winner Louisiana Lafayette to return to play hometown favorite Tulane, our week five Game of the Week. Tulane is in their last season with Conference USA and are looking for post season play on their home field in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. ESPN’s other analyst picked Western Kentucky to play Tulane. We like the way West Kentucky is playing, beating UK and playing tough against UT. They are poised for a great finish.
This week, Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns play the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky in a mid week feature on Tuesday. This game could have bowl game implications and we will definitely be watching. If Western Kentucky wins, they will share the lead in the Sun Belt, bringing them a step closer to a holiday spent in New Orleans.
