The field is starting to heat up in Caesars Superdome! This year’s 2024 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl matchup will pit Georgia Southern University out of the Sun Belt Conference against Sam Houston State University, the representatives from Conference USA. Unlike many previous years, this will be the first time these teams meet on the field.
R+L Carriers has been the title sponsor for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl since 2006. 2024 will serve as the 19th consecutive year the transportation company has partnered with the bowl game, now in its overall 24th iteration.
Georgia Southern University – Sun Belt Conference
The Eagles are returning to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl after their dominant 38-3 victory in 2020. Heading into this year’s match, their 8-4 margins are slightly better than the team’s record four years ago. The players will be led by Head Coach Clay Helton, now in his third season with Georgia Southern. No doubt, the Eagles are raring for a repeat of their last New Orleans outing, hoping to capture some football magic in what will be their second overall R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
Sam Houston State University – Conference USA
Offensive Coordinator Brad Cornelson now serves as the Bearkats’ interim head coach after the team’s former leader stepped down early this December. Cornelson joined Sam Houston’s roster in early 2023 and a win at the 2024 R+L Carriers New Orleans bowl would be a landmark moment to showcase his versatility on the sidelines. This will be the Bearkats’ first bowl game at the FBS level, qualifying with an impressive 9-3 season record.
