Arkansas picked up their first Sun Belt Conference win this weekend over UL Monroe. The Red Wolves move t0 3-2 overall just like the Warhawks from UL Monroe. Arkansas State holds the number 2 spot in the Sun Belt standings after the conference undefeated Georgia Southern.
First Half Not Like the Second
The offenses were held without score in the first 30 minutes. The Red Wolves ground the Warhawks in an uneventful first half, no points scored, the teams retired to the locker rooms scoreless at the midpoint. The only attempts for points in the first half came from Arkansas when they missed a FG from the 28 yard line. In the first 30 minutes of the game there were 10 punts and 2 downs, and two 3 turnovers.
Arkansas State Delivered in the Second Half
Arkansas State put up 4 touchdowns in the last two quarters. QB Fredi Knighten completed 21 passes in 36 attempts for 284 yards. he connected for 1 touchdown and ran 3 into the end zone himself. He carried 20 times for 71 yards, making him the second highest rusher after Michael Gordon during Saturday’s game.
Monroe waited til the 4th
Like Arkansas State they were able to find the end zone in the 4th quarter when they picked up 14 points. Out-rushed the entire game, the effort in the 4th was too little too late. Each of Monroe’s QB’s were able to pass for a TD in the 4th. Pete Thomas threw the first 59 yards and Brayle Brown connected on a 41 yard pass to close the game in the 4th.
