Two teams are ready to collide at the 2023 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl! Playing out of the Sun Belt Conference, the University of Louisiana Lafayette is raring to take home the win. Meanwhile, Jacksonville State University aims to secure a victory for Conference USA. These collegiate titans will clash Saturday, December 16 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, home of the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks are facing a decorated opponent in what will be their first appearance at this bowl game. Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns are the most prolific R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl winners, seizing the trophy in five of their past six appearances. While the Louisiana team aims to repeat their 2021 performance, Jax State will be seeking a win in their debut.
University of Louisiana Lafayette – Sun Belt Conference
Head Coach Michael Desormeaux is a returning champion, having lead his team to an R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl victory in 2021. That outing marked his first game as Head Coach for the Ragin’ Cajuns, a role he has retained to this day. However, Louisiana finds themselves narrowly eligible for this year’s bowl game, holding a 6-6 season record. Can the Cajuns win in their seventh appearance at the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl?
Jacksonville State University – Conference USA
Since being named Head Coach in November 2021, Rich Rodriguez has found success in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Arriving with eight wins and half as many losses, the Gamecocks are well-positioned to take home the trophy at their first R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Jax State has not faced the University of Louisiana Lafayette since November 11, 2000 in which the Gamecocks triumphed 28-14 over the Ragin’ Cajuns at Cajun Field.
