September 1995 was the only time these two teams met. That game was in Reno. The rematch is the 2014 New Orleans Bowl later this week.

On September 2 of that year Louisiana Lafayette fell to the Wolf Pack of Nevada-Reno 38-14. Lafayette went 6-5 that season under coach Stokley. Nevada playing under the Big West with coach Chris Ault compiled a 9-3 record after falling to Toledo in the Las Vegas Bowl.
