Idaho traveled to San Diego in an effort to pick up a second win. The Azteks were looking to climb atop the West Division of the MWC.
San Diego On Top
The Azteks top West Division of the Mountain West Conference with this win! San Diego State’s biggest stars all scored in the 35-21 win over the Vandals from Idaho. QB Quinn Kaehler three for three touchdowns while Donnel Pumphrey and Chase Price each scored on runs. Returning to the field after halftime with the score tied, Kaehler connected with Eric Judge in a big way to move up 21-14. That 58 yard pass ignited the Azteks and prompted Price’s TD on the next possession. San Diego never looked back and held Idaho scoreless in the 4th.
Idaho Falls Again
QB Chad Lalich only completed 50% of his throws and picked up only 145 yards. He did have 8 runs with one finding the end zone. Idaho slips to 1-8 with out a win in Sun Belt conference play. They get two more chances to improve their record with a home game against Troy State and a road trip to play Appalachian State.
San Diego
To find bowl eligibility San Diego needs to win two more. They are on the road against Boise (7-2) then host Air Force (7-2) and San Jose (3-6) at home. All three are Mountain West games with Boise and Air Force leading the Mountain Division. San Diego State has come to enjoy post season play in recent years. They have played in bowl games for the last 4 years with appearances in the Poinsettia Bowl (2010 & 2012), R+L New Orleans Bowl (2011) and the Famous Idaho Bowl last year.
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
It was just 3 years ago that San Diego lost to University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Will San Diego make the list and return to the Big Easy? The 2014 New Orleans Bowl will be played on December 20 in the Mercedes Benze Superdome in New Orleans. Kick off is 10:00 a.m. CST.
