It was a career high day for Senior Running Back Charles Ross on Saturday. Ross came into this game with 6 touchdowns and added 5 additional TDs as Rice flew over Louisiana Tech Saturday 52-14. Rice QB Taylor McHargue didn’t disappoint either. He threw for 167 yards, which included a touchdown pass and only one interception.
Owls’ Offense Flies High
A touchdown pass to Dennis Parks, two touchdown runs of two yards, and 5 yards by Charles Ross with a field goal completed a great first half by Rice. Entering the locker room at the half, Rice was the only one with points on the scoreboard: 24-0.
Charles Ross punched in another 2 yard run midway through the 3rd quarter, moving the score to 31-0. A few minutes later, the Bulldogs found the end zone with a 74 yard pass from Higgins to Griffin. The fourth quarter looked a lot like the first. Two more runs by Ross, 1 yard and 19 yards, moved the score to 45 for the Owls. Luke Turner completed Rice’s scoring when he scrambled into the end zone from the 1 yard line.
Marlon Seets added a touchdown in the final drive of the 4th quarter to give Tech 14 total points for the day. Rice’s offense dominated the game in front of the home crowd in Houston’s Rice Stadium. The Owls tallied up 415 yards rushing, helped in a big way by Charles Ross. Rice’s defense held Tech to only 146 yards on the ground.

The Devil may have gone to Georgia, but we are happy to announce that the Charlie Daniels Band will be heading to New Orleans to headline our free kickoff concert on Friday, December 20, 2013. Charlie will be joined by another “Long Haired Country Boy” Mr. Travis Tritt! We are excited to have these two country legends with us this year.
Selection Time Grows Near
Louisiana continued with their perfect conference record and won their 8th in a row this past weekend. It’s clear they have their eyes on the Superdome for December 21. Arkansas State also took home a win and maintained their 1 loss record in Sun Belt Conference play. The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl gets the first pick out of this conference. Louisiana is the two time defending champion and remains a fan favorite to return this year.
The C-USA also sends a team to the Bowl. The Bowl takes the 6th eligible team from the Conference. Rice, with its 5-1 conference record and 7-3 overall, is a possibility. ESPN and others like home team Tulane for the C-USA spot. Tulane is eligible for the first time in 11 years when they won against Tulsa moving to 6 wins for the season. An all Louisiana Bowl is sure to bring another record crowd to the Mercedes Benz Superdome again this year.
